ABOUT THE POSITION
Prince Henry’s Institute is looking for a dedicated and experienced Research Assistant with high level organizational skills, strong histology and immunohistology experience and expertise with common scientific software and web-based applications.
This is a key position in the lab providing general assistance to a variety of exciting research projects with relevance to fertility and infertility. You will take responsibility for overall coordination of the laboratory, be prepared to take the initiative as required and demonstrate flexibility and an interest in learning new techniques. Our experiments are fundamental to our research outcomes and thus the ability to apply a meticulous approach to all aspects of the work is a key determinant for selection of the successful applicant. Our team is highly dedicated to our research and very occasionally this results in unexpected overtime when vital tissues arrive late in the day from surgery. However we expect our staff to take time off in lieu of overtime worked and appreciate that they may have responsibilities outside of work.
The successful candidate will join a welcoming team as a member of the Uterine Biology Laboratory, comprising of 18 dedicated staff and students working toward the lab’s overall mission to improve women’s reproductive health. This position reports directly to the Laboratory Head, Professor Lois Salamonsen.
The ideal candidate will have a science degree and subsequent experience in a lab. High level organizational skills are also essential for this position. Strong histology, immunohistology and cell culture experience are also required as well as proficiency with common scientific software and web-based applications. Knowledge of endometrial histology and experience with databases would be fantastic but is not essential.
This position is offered for an initial term of one year, with further opportunity for extension dependent on performance and funding. It is intended to be a full-time role, however, a slightly less than full time commitment could be negotiated with an outstanding candidate. The salary level for this appointment will be in the range of $51,596 – $57,732 gross per annum (pro-rata if part-time) according to qualifications and experience. Prince Henry’s Institute offers excellent salary packaging benefits with further employer co-contributions to superannuation available after a 3 month probationary period.
PHI employees also enjoy the following benefits:
- On-site gym
- Close proximity to public transport
- Active Social Club with numerous events and activities throughout the year
Staff development opportunities through technical seminars and educational forums throughout the year
Applications in writing quoting 2008-LS-04, including a covering letter, curriculum vitae and the names of three professional referees should be forwarded to Human Resources at: janelle.fisher@princehenrys.org by 1pm on 12th September 2008.
